"My house is too old for a heat pump" is something you often hear, but it is rarely true. Almost every home is suitable for a hybrid heat pump. For all-electric we take a closer look.
- Almost every home is suitable for hybrid
- For all-electric, insulation and heat distribution count
- Year of construction does not tell the whole story
- A survey provides certainty
Hybrid: almost always possible
Because a hybrid heat pump works in tandem with your central heating boiler, your home does not need to be perfectly insulated. Your existing radiators will suffice. For most existing homes, this is the easiest first step.
All-electric: look at insulation and heat distribution
If you want to go completely gas-free, good insulation and low-temperature heat distribution (underfloor heating or larger radiators) is important. It is not your year of construction, but your level of insulation that is decisive.

Frequently asked questions
Is my old house suitable?
For hybrid, almost certainly. For all-electric, we look at insulation and the heat distribution system. A survey provides certainty.
Do I need to insulate first?
For hybrid, not necessarily. For all-electric, insulation improves efficiency. We advise on a logical sequence.
