The placement of the air conditioning indoor unit largely determines the efficiency, comfort and lifespan of your air conditioning system. Incorrect positioning can lead to poor air circulation, noise nuisance or even higher energy costs. Energie Install therefore advises taking a number of important factors into account during installation, such as the room layout, airflow and safety. Below you can read what to look out for when positioning the indoor unit.
- The indoor unit must be placed as high as possible, but not too close to the ceiling (indicatively 20-30 cm below the ceiling).
- Ensure there is sufficient free space around the unit for optimal air circulation (indicatively at least 50 cm on all sides).
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or heat sources to prevent overloading the unit.
- Do not place the unit above furniture or other obstacles that may block the airflow.
Why the height of the indoor unit is important
The height at which you install the indoor unit directly affects the distribution of cooled or heated air in the room. A unit installed too low can lead to uneven temperature distribution, while placing it too high can disrupt the airflow. Ideally a height of approximately 2 to 2.5 metres above the floor is recommended, depending on the ceiling height. At Energie Install, we always check that the height is suitable for the specific situation and the customer's requirements.

The correct distance from walls and obstacles
Good air circulation is essential for the air conditioning to function properly. Therefore, the indoor unit should not be placed too close to walls, ceilings, or other obstacles. At least 50 cm clearance on all sides is a guideline, but this may vary depending on the type of unit and installation conditions. For narrow spaces or complex layouts, we recommend engaging a specialist from Energie Install to determine the optimal placement.
Avoid heat sources and direct sunlight
Never place the indoor unit in the immediate vicinity of heat sources such as radiators, cookers, or fireplaces. Exposure to direct sunlight can also reduce the air conditioner's efficiency, as the unit has to work harder to cool the room. Preferably, choose a location where the unit is sheltered, for example on the shaded side of the room. Energie Install takes this into account during the design of the installation.

Frequently asked questions
Can I mount the indoor unit myself, or must this be done by a professional?
Mounting an indoor unit requires precision and knowledge of the correct mounting materials and techniques. Incorrect installation can lead to vibrations, noise nuisance, or even damage to the unit. Energie Install works with certified technicians who carry out the installation according to regulations, ensuring you have a safe and durable solution.
What happens if the indoor unit is hung too close to the ceiling?
Too little distance from the ceiling can disrupt the airflow, preventing the cooled air from circulating properly into the room. This can lead to less efficient cooling and uneven temperature distribution. Furthermore, placing it too high can hinder the operation of the condensate drain, which may cause problems over time.
